Bouldering
Bouldering is a type of climbing done on shorter walls without ropes or harnesses. Thick padded mats are placed on the ground to cushion falls. Climbers use their hands, feet, and problem-solving skills to move up the wall, following routes called “problems.” It’s like solving a puzzle with your body! Bouldering helps kids build strength, balance, and confidence while having fun and trying new challenges.
Bouldering rules
To keep everyone climbing responsibly and respectfully, please follow these guidelines:
Minimum age for bouldering is 8 years old.
Parents or guardians must stay present and actively watch and spot their children—please do not sit on the bench using your phone.
Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Everyone entering the blue carpet area must complete a waiver and check in at the front desk before climbing.
Top Roping
Top roping is a style of climbing where a rope is attached to the top of the wall and connected to the climber with a harness. As the climber moves up, a partner on the ground—called a belayer—manages the rope, keeping it snug and helping control the descent back down. This setup allows climbers to focus on their movements and technique while working their way up taller walls. Top roping is a great way for kids to build confidence, trust, and communication skills while learning the basics of climbing.
Top Roping rules
To ensure proper supervision and responsible climbing, please follow these guidelines:
Only individuals who are 18 or older, belay certified at Boulderdash, and have visited the gym within the last 6 months are allowed to belay others.
Interested in learning how to belay? Sign up for an Up Rope class to get trained and certified.
Kids ages 13 and up may belay only those who are certified.
